The Equal Credit Opportunity Act Protects Access to Fair and Affordable Credit – But It’s Under Attack
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has issued a proposed rule that would gut the fair lending protections in the ECOA. This would allow lenders to discriminate based on gender, age, race, and other characteristics in lending decisions, including for mortgages and car loans.
It’s imperative to submit comments to the CFPB on the importance of the ECOA to you and the ability to access fair and sustainable credit. We urge comments with stories of discrimination or discouragement from applying for credit based on protected characteristics.
This Template is designed to help generate brief non-uniform comments. This Template contains suggested language but please customize this message below to reflect the experience of your client or organization.
See our issue brief for more on what the proposed rule does and our recommendations for strengthening it.
